Innovation Showcase 1.3 Creating novel materials from poultry by-products

We heard from Dr. Aman Ullah about his work to reduce waste by-products in the poultry industry.

Spent hens and poultry feathers are considered as a waste by-product because their existing uses are economically marginal and they contribute to environmental pollution due to the disposal problems. Over the last 9 years, Dr. Ullah's lab has developed novel materials using poultry byproducts such as biosorbents for water treatment, biochemicals and high performance hybrid bio/nanocomposites for packaging and other industrial applications.

This talk provided a comprehensive overview of byproduct utilization and sustainable solutions using a circular economy concept with large economic and environmental benefits.
